What Medicare Doesn't Cover

Medicare doesn't cover everything. If a Medicare beneficiary needs certain services Medicare doesn't cover, they will have to pay for those services themselves unless they have other insurance or they are in a Medicare health plan that covers them.

Even if Medicare covers a service or item, they generally have to pay their deductible, coinsurance, and copayments. Some of the items and services that Medicare doesn't cover include:

 Long-term Care in a nursing home

 Most dental care

 Eye examinations related to prescribing glasses

 Dentures

 Cosmetic surgery

 Acupuncture

 Hearing aids and exams for fitting them

 Routine foot care
